New Paper Folding and Layering Technique For A Handmade Birthday Card

I have always loved the way greeting cards looked when you open them up and they “pop” with excitement.  Not just your ordinary card that may have a beautiful saying but nothing special.

Well those days are over.  I have been using different folding techniques that really make your handmade greeting cards fun and exciting.  It does take a little more time then your regular card, but it is well worth it.

Tomorrow is my sister-in-laws birthday and then on Monday it’s my Mom’s birthday.  I wanted to make them both a really pretty, and different card that they would remember, so here is what the birthday card looks like. (I used the same design for them both but I changed the coloring)

This is the front of the card.  I rubber stamped the image onto white cardstock (this dragonfly stamp from Stamps Happen, Inc) the stamp was a large print but I only used the center of the design and colored with Copic Sketch markers.  Then I cut out the image and layered it onto the solid green cardstock that was layered onto the patterned paper with pop dots for a dimensional look.

Now for fun inside of this birthday card.   I stamped some sentiments on white cardstock tags.  Then layered onto a light lavender cardstock.  I wanted to bring the theme of the dragonfly into the inside of the card so I stamped this image of a dragonfly (from Stamp Crafts)  three times and colored with Copic Sketch markers, then I cut them out using my Cutter Bee Precision tip scissors.  I finished them off by gluing them to each of the sentiment tags.

The great part about this card is that I have had these rubber stamps for years and used them one dimensional.  But with a different fold of the card and some layering, it is like having some brand new stamps all over again.

Cricut Card Idea using Smiley Cards Gypsy Download

Hope you are having a great day ~ I need to make a handmade birthday card today for my dearest friend.  I wanted a birthday card that would make her smile, nothing serious just a fun card.  So I had a great Cricut Card Idea, using my Gypsy and that great cartridge download Smiley Cards, and I believe that I have a winner.  I also used my Cricut Expression machine to cut this tea cup out.

Look how cute this tea cup turned out.

I made a tea bag label with beige cardstock and stamped happy birthday with a Hero Arts stamp set. I layered the tea cup onto first lavender Stampin Up cardstock, that was then layered onto polka dot paper from  DCWV the summer stack paper pack, then one more layer on burgundy cardstock that I also used a border punch by EK Success that has birthday candles.  I used gold stickles for the flames of each candle and then also used Martha Stewart Opaque white marker for the base of the candle.

This is just another great Cricut Card Idea that is sure to be a keeper in your handmade card file.  You don’t need alot of paper for this tea cup so you can use up some scraps that you have laying around if you like.

Another Great Cricut Card Idea using the Paisley Cricut Cartridge for a Really Fun Birthday Card

I just got a new cell phone, a cute little Jest from Verizon.  My previous phone was really old and it was just a phone, no keyboard or any of the cool things that a cell phone has now a days.  So this new phone has a keyboard for text messaging and a pretty large screen so that I can see what I’m typing and most importantly what is being sent to me.  Now that I am all up to date with my new phone,  my niece and nephews are “texting” me, and it’s really great to be in touch with them.

I thought that this Cricut card idea of a cell phone would be just perfect.  So using the Paisley Cricut cartridge, and my Cricut Expression machine, I cut everything at 3 1/2″.  Then for a personal touch to this great birthday card I decided to also use some rubber stamps.  I stamped happy birthday using a hero arts stamp on a plain white piece of cardstock that is the screen of the cell phone.  Instead of numbers on the keypad, I stamped the birthday girls name Nicole,  using studio G stamps.  Then filling in the empty spaces with some rhinestones added that special “bling” that every card needs.   I also used the Glitter Sweet stack paper from DCWV for layering the background.

I can think of so many Cricut Card Ideas, and hopefully you can too.  So get busy and start creating your own special Cricut Cards.

A Fun Summer Handmade Greeting Card For A Pool Side Birthday Party

I have been having so much fun with these House Mouse Rubber Stamps lately.  Have you ever just gone shopping in your own craft room, finding things that you didn’t know or forgot that you had?   Well I think these House Mouse Rubber Stamps have a theme for just about anything.

My girlfriend was having a pool side birthday party so I had to keep with that theme for her handmade birthday card.

I used the House Mouse Bunny Cruise stamp.  I first stamped the image in white cardstock with Tuxedo Black Memento Dye Ink.  Then I colored the image with Copic Sketch markers.

Thinking that this card needed a little lift, I decided to cut out the image and used pop dots to make the 3-D look.  It still wasn’t what I wanted so I stamped the image again on the white card stock and just colored in the little duck and the cocktail and cut them out and made another layer using pop dots for those to images to stand out even more.  I used my clear embossing marker and some clear embossing powder on the cocktail to make it look like a shiny glass.  After layering with some different color blue cardstock, and cut the bottom with a wavy cut from my Purple Cows paper cutter, and finished the handmade birthday card off with some polka dot ribbon.

I hope you enjoy this card as much as I enjoyed making it.

Making a Handmade Birthday Card with the Paisley Cricut Cartridge

I hope that everyone is having a great week so far.  I just finished making my brother in law a handmade birthday card using my Cricut Expression machine with the new Paisley Cricut cartridge, Plantin Schoolbook Cricut cartridge, and also the Mini Monograms Cricut cartridge.  It came out so great that I just had to share it with you.

My brother-in-law just ran in the New York City half marathon,  so I wanted the theme of his handmade birthday card to  be running.

I used the Plantin Schoolbook cartridge for the background of the city, and the Paisley Cricut cartridge for the sneaker.  The metal that he received was gold and had a Y cut out looking like a subway token.  So I used the Mini Monograms Cricut cartridge to cut out the Y.

I had so much fun making this handmade birthday card, and I know that Harry will like it too!
