Memories Will Last Forever Especially When They Are Handmade

Hello My Fellow Crafters,

I have had a tough few months.  In April my Mom passed away, then in May my Dad passed.  This has been really hard on me and my family but we have learned that my Mom and Dads lives were the perfect love story.  They were married for 62 years and they just could not be apart from each other.  My faith tells me that they both are in a much better place and I now have two angels watching over me.  I will have precious memories of them both in my heart forever.

When we were going through boxes of my parents belongings we really learned how very crafty they both were.

When my Dad was in the Navy in WWII he kept a journal and also had a scrapbook of all the places that he traveled being on a Navy ship for 4 years.  He also use to color black and white photos, maybe that’s why I like to take pictures and scrapbook 🙂

Then we found lots of fun crafts that my Mom made.  Christmas ornaments made with sequins and straight pins in a Styrofoam ball,  handmade and hand sewn decorative pillows made from sheer curtains and some ribbon, and the cutest thing were “nuts”  She made our family out of 5 different kind of nuts and glued googly eyes onto them.  This is just one of  the silly things my mom would do to make us laugh.  I hope it puts a smile on your face too!

we're nuts

I am going to start crafting again, I know that it is great therapy and my parents would want me to continue doing what I love.   I have a lot of  new handmade card ideas, crafting ideas and can’t forget Cricut ideas that I can’t wait to share with all of you.

Make It A Great Day and Don’t Forget To Leave Time To Craft!

Celebrating One Month at a Time….April Scrapbooking Ideas

If you are overwhelmed with the idea of Scrapbooking and Journaling, why not take the approach of Celebrating one month at time.

I write in a journal every day. Some may call it writing in a diary, I call it journaling. I write down things that I have done that day, how I was feeling, what struck me funny, what made me sad. I also always have a camera with me whenever I leave my house. My friends call me “Auntie Flash”, because I am always taking pictures of something.

Since the month of April is now in the history books, I am going to make a Scrapbook page just for the month of April. I have pretty cool April Scrapbooking ideas. I will go through my journal, take a highlight from each day and some pictures that I have taken during the month and let my artsy juices flow. I am going to incorporate my own handwriting along with some computer generated thoughts that I will print it out on cool paper.

Some April Scrapbooking Ideas that you can add to your scrapbook page can consist of; April fools, Easter, Passover, Earth Day, and some birthdays and anniversaries were on my calendar; maybe you had some on yours as well.

This also is a good way to use seasonal papers and embellishments that you have hanging around your craft studio, or a great reason to go and buy some new ones. For example, you can use bunny or Easter egg brads to adhere your scrapbook page. There are so many ribbons with the theme of Easter and spring. The same goes for paper, stickers, rub-ons, and anything else that you can think of.

Join me on this April scrapbook challenge. It will be fun. One month at a time.

Make it a Great Day and don’t forget to leave time to Craft!

What to do on National Scrapbook Day?

Come on fellow Scrapbookers, there is a National day for us.    On this day there will be no doing laundry, no cleaning the house or even doing yard work on this day.  All we are going to do is have fun and scrapbook!

National Scrapbook Day is May 2nd.  What are you going to do?  Go to your local scrapbook center and crop the day away?  Or, stay at home and have your own scrapbook crop with your friends?

Did you know that National Scrapbook Day is the first Saturday of May?  Well it looks that way to me, so if you have other plans this year, mark your calendar for next year so that you don’t miss out on the fun.

I am staying home this year, but I made a goal for myself, and that is to start and finish one scrapbook.  I will not come out of my craft studio until I finish.  That sounds like I will be trapped but I Love It!

I will post some of my scrapbook pages next week to show you what I accomplished.  It’s going to be a surprise for me too.  I can’t wait to see what I do.

Whichever way you choose to spend your National Scrapbook day, make it a great one and let your creativity go wild!

Great Scrapbook Idea

Have you just thought of the most fabulous idea for your Scrapbooking page? It might have been the colors on an advertisement in a magazine that started your idea, or a sign that you saw driving in a car. Whatever sparked you idea there is just a couple of things to do to make sure that your Scrapbook page turns out just as you pictured it to be.First you decided the theme of your Scrapbook. Then it is time to gather all the materials that your will need.

Let’s start with your color scheme and work around that. You will need to get your paper. Start with the main color that you want and then add all of the accent colors around your main color.

You can add accent colors with additional papers, and all types of embellishments such as: Silk flowers, brads, eyelets, stickers, ribbons and the list can go on and on.

For example: If you are making a Wedding Scrapbook you would gather together some white, elegant paper, maybe some lace ribbon, some white flower 3D stickers and then use the color of your bridesmaids dresses as the accent color to bring the whole theme together.

Or

If you are making a Birthday Scrapbook for your son who loves fire trucks, you would get some Red Paper and some sticker letters in the shape of a fire water hose or firemen’s boots. You get the idea.

Now that you have all the materials that you will need it is time to put your Scrapbook Page layout together. Before you start cutting and gluing things all over your paper, you should start by just laying each item on the page before you permanently put them on the page. This will save you a lot of heartache later when you find that your layout isn’t what you thought or it is not fitting on the page. Once everything is in place, then you can permanently adhere to the paper, using a glue stick, glue dots, tape runner etc.

*Tip: Make your Scrapbook in chronological order.

Example: If you have one Scrapbook of yearly vacations, either start with current year first then go backwards from there, or visa versa. Don’t skip a year unless you didn’t take a vacation that year. It will be so much nicer to look at a book that is not jumping all over the place from year to year.

Making a scrapbook can be one of the most satisfying things that you can do for yourself and others who you will be sharing it with. You will be preserving your memories in a beautiful, decorative fashion, and can let others see the photo stories that mean so much to you.

Make it a Great Day and don’t forget to leave time to Craft!
