Happy New Year 2015

Happy New Year My Fellow Crafters,

Hope you all enjoyed your holidays and time off from work.  It looks like I enjoyed my time off from blogging, but I have a lot to share with you.

I have added a new form of art to my resume. I have been so happy and content rubber stamping and designing cards with my Cricut expression that I guess I had blinders on to all the other creative art that is out there.

Back in November I took a Zentangle Class at an art shop in Jacksonville.  You might be asking what is Zentangle?  I asked the same question to my nephew Ryan who showed me this really cool piece of art that he was working on for his art class.  When I started asking him a lot of questions he told me to “google it”  and I am so happy that I did.

Zentangle is an art form and method that was created by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas.  Zentangle is an easy to learn method of creating beautiful images from repetitive patterns.  This type of art is fun, relaxing and also provides artistic satisfaction and increased sense of well-being.  A finished Zentangle is an unplanned abstract approach to art because you have no idea what the result will be.  If you want to learn more you can check out Zentangle dot com.

Anyway, I have been so excited to sit every night (really I have been doing this every night since 11/15) with a blank piece of cardstock that is cut into 4×4 and a Sakura micron marker. You don’t need anything else, unless you want your design to have color.

This is my first Zentangle that I made in class.  I am going to continue this daily and see where it takes me.  I will be sharing more of my Zentangle art with you in other posts.  That’s not to say that I am not going to be doing all the other fun paper crafts that I love as well.  You know me, I need my Cricut and Rubber Stamps LOL 🙂

More Birthday Step-Up Card Ideas

Hello My Fellow Crafters,

I am having so much fun with this Sizzix  Basic Step-Ups framelits die.  And, I am so happy I need to make a birthday card for my sister-in-law.  She loves flowers and I was thinking what a colorful flower/garden shop card I could create.

So using the Sizzix framelits die, along with my Cuttlebug and a lot of different paper flower punches I went to work and this is the finished card.

Here is a close up of the flowers, it amazing how much fun you can have creating with craft supplies that are just hanging around in your craft space .  I used numerous flower paper punches, scrap pieces of cardstock, foam to shape the flower with a stylis tool and some glue 🙂

For the flower pots I used rubber stamps that I had from Stampin Up and just covered up the flower images with my handmade flowers.

Step-Up Birthday Card Idea

Hello My Fellow Crafters,

My nephew is turning 18 this week.  I really can’t believe how time flies, and if I am feeling like this I can only imagine how my sister is feeling 🙂

Anyway, I wanted this card to be fun, so thinking of fun I thought of candy, and this is what I created with those thoughts in mind.

frontofcandystorecard

I started with some candle stamps from the Stamps of Life, and colored with Copic markers.  (I made sure I stamped 18 candles..LOL)The saying was computer generated.

For the inside I used the basic Step-Ups die from Sizzix, and all of the candy and candy jars were stamped with a stamp set from Close To My Heart called Sweet as Sugar.  I cut each one out by hand.  All colored with Copic sketch markers,  and one candy jar was filled with different colored gumballs made from a circle paper punch.

This is the side view of the card so you can see how it really is 3-dimensional.   This die (Basic Step-Ups) from Sizzix is my favorite for the moment.  You can do sooooo much creating with it, so many possibilities.  Since it is a candy shop I wanted to create the look of an  awning that you would see outside on a shop in your local town.  So I used a border Framelit die and folded it around the base of the cardstock to get the look that I wanted.

I had so much fun making this card using so many different stamps and punches and dies, but I think it was worth it!

~ Happy Birthday Ryan ~
